Fidyah

When a Muslim is unable to fast during Ramadan due to a legitimate and temporary reason, such as illness or travel, they are required to make up the missed fasts at a later time.

However, if a person is permanently unable to fast due to chronic illness, old age, or a medical condition with no expectation of recovery, then making up the fasts is no longer required. In this case, they must pay Fidya, which is an obligation to feed a poor person for each day of fasting missed.

Fidya ensures that those who are unable to fast are still able to participate in the blessings of Ramadan by supporting the poor and needy.

How Is Fidya Calculated?

The cost of Fidya is based on the price of feeding one poor person for one day. This amount reflects the cost of a basic, nourishing meal.

Local Food Cost Method

To calculate Fidya, determine the cost of a simple meal in your area, such as staple grains and basic nourishment, then multiply that amount by the number of fasts missed.

For example:
If the cost of one meal is $20, and 10 fasts were missed, the total Fidya would be:

$20 × 10 days = $200

Fidya Amount for Ramadan 2026

For Ramadan 2026, the Fidya amount has been set at $20 per missed fast. This contribution provides a needy individual with a meal for one day.

Sadaqa Welfare Fund operates under a 100% donation policy, ensuring that your Fidya is used directly to feed poor and vulnerable families throughout Ramadan. These meals are distributed to communities experiencing food insecurity, allowing your obligation to be fulfilled with certainty and impact.

Fulfilling Fidya With Confidence

By paying your Fidya through Sadaqa Welfare Fund, you ensure that your contribution is calculated correctly, distributed responsibly, and delivered where the need is greatest during the blessed month.

Your Fidya becomes nourishment for the hungry and a means of reward for you, by the permission of Allah.
