Masjid Al-Taqwa - Mirrabooka Expansion

Masjid Al Taqwa in Mirrabooka is currently raising funds for Stage 2 of its renovation and expansion project. This phase includes commercialising the existing kitchen, increasing the first floor area to accommodate the growing community demand and extending the sisters’ prayer area. This phase will be a predecessor to stage 3 which involves the major expansion of the current prayer hall and additional classrooms for Madressah, this is required as it will accommodate space for people to utilise whilst the main prayer hall is under construction. The ultimate goal is to create a community hub for Muslims of all ages to be within the compounds of the Masjid.

Mirrabooka mosque has been constantly growing throughout the years with building expansions occurring without future planning insights. It has been decided to look at the site from a holistic approach to accommodate what the Muslim community needs. Stage 1 works was the rectification of a fatigued retaining wall and associated remedial works. The future stages are highlighted below accordingly :-

Stage 2

·         CREATE A NEW OFFICE FOR GENERAL ENQUIRIES >No facility available for conversations with the sheikh or members of the facility

·         CREATE AN OUTDOOR WUDHU AREA FOR THE MEN (UNDERCOVER) >Current moisture issues with Wudhu facilities indoor

·         CREATE AN INDOOR WUDHU AREA FOR THE WOMAN >Currently minimum Wudhu facilities for woman

·         KITCHEN RENOVATION TO COMMERCIAL STANDARDS FOR FUNCTIONS >Current kitchen facilities unable to cope with any events

·         INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL STORAGE FOR GENERAL MAINTEANCE >Crime issues within the area and internal storage requirements

·         CREATE A LIFT FOR DISABILITY ACCESS TO THE UPPER FLOOR >Currently no disability access for woman on the upper floor

·         CREATE 5 CLASSROOMS FOR MADRESSAH & UPSTAIRS LIBRARY >Provision for an increase in Madresssa classes

Stage 3

·         EXTEND THE MEN’S MAIN HALL AREA >Due to increase in number of patrons. One of the busiest mosques in WA

·         EXTEND WOMANS PRAYER AREA UPSTAIRS >Currently unable to host many woman for Islamic events

·         CREATE AN AREA FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO GATHER DURING JANAZAH’S >Currently no area for members of the deceased to congregate

·         CREATE AN ADDITIONAL 5 CLASSROOMS FOR MADRESSAH >Provision for an increase in Madresssa classes

·         CREATE WEIGHTED GYM AREA 24/7 ACCESS (FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMAN) >Currently issues faced in the west with gender mixed environments for fitness and well being.

Due to the requirement to maintain operations for the mosque (so it does not flood other community centres), we are staging the construction into two parts. Stage 2 being the left wing addition and stage 3 being the centre building extension. We have strategically designed the building so it can work in isolation between on another, ensuring the safety of the public.
