SADAQAH FAQS

Sadaqah is derived from the Arabic word “Sidq” – which means Sincerity, or Truth. It is commonly referred to and known as voluntary charity. Sadaqah is an act of worship by giving donations without the action being made obligatory.

Allah SWT says in the Quran:

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” (Quran 2:261)

Sadaqah for the sake of Allah helps Muslims in many ways:

  1. It is an act of fulfilling the commands of Allah ?
  2. Sadaqah can cure sickness
  3. It’s a sign of One’s Faith
  4. Accumulating great rewards
  5. One’s Wealth is Multiplied
  6. It saves us from harm and purifies us of sins

Sadaqah does not have a fixed amount it can be as little as $1, while zakat has a fixed percentage of 2.5% of one’s wealth.

Sadaqah is a voluntary act of charity, Zakat is a mandatory Pillar of Islam.

A Muslim can donate Sadaqah as many times as he/she desires, while Zakat is an obligatory act of charity that must be paid once every lunar year as a form of purification of your assets.

Sadaqah Jariyah is a form of ongoing charity which you are continuously rewarded for because people in need benefit from your charitable act until the day of judgment.

Sadaqa Welfare Fund runs many appeals and has many Sadaqah Jaariya programs that help those afflicted by calamities all over the world.

The best type of charity varies according to the situation:

Prophet? said, “A drink of water.”

“If you disclose your charitable expenditures, they are good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, it is better for you, and He will remove from you some of your misdeeds [thereby]. And Allah, of what you do, is [fully] Aware.” (Quran 2:271)
