Bangladesh is experiencing a humanitarian crisis in the Sylhet division, with millions of people marooned due to heavy monsoon rains and flooding. Flash floods have swept away homes and destroyed farmlands, forcing countless families towards higher grounds and into temporary flood shelters. According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, 80-90% of the region and surrounding areas are submerged, resulting in widespread displacement and crisis.
There are up to 450 emergency shelters in Sylhet with people being evacuated in the tens of thousands in the area and surrounding areas. Many others are stranded in their homes or left shelterless on open ground due to the impact of the floods.
