A powerful earthquake has struck the provinces of Paktika and Khost in Afghanistan leaving 1,100 people dead, over 2,000 people injured, 55 villages have been impacted and over 6,000 people displaced. Measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale, the earthquake struck at 1:30am as people slept, destroying hundreds of houses.
It's the deadliest quake to strike Afghanistan in over two decades with tremors felt as far away as Pakistan and India. Reports state that most of the dead are very young children.
